You’ve heard my takes on Jack Kerouac and Woody Guthrie, so today’s it’s Kurt Vonnegut’s turn. I find him to be one of America’s more fascinating writers. He lived a pretty conventional life, while writing about rather unconventional things. As for his religion he once wrote: In order not to seem a spiritual quadriplegic to strangers trying to get a fix on me, I sometimes say I m a Unitarian Universalist. He was an avowed atheist who still couldn’t seem to stop taking about God a God he never quite found. I’ll offer some of my thoughts on how his life has informed mine, and a perspective offers for living in maddening times like the ones we are in the midst of now.
