What happens when we stop seeing people as immigrants, refugees, deportees, or strangers—and begin seeing the human beings behind the labels? A Taxi at the End of the World explores the plight of immigrants and refugees through poetry, music, reflection, and stories of displacement, including Carolyn Forché’s powerful poem The Boatman and Woody Guthrie’s Deportee. In a time when immigration enforcement and fear have reached communities close to home, including Biddeford, Maine, we will ask what our commitment to inherent worth and dignity calls us to do—and how we can turn strangers into neighbors.
