To the best of my knowledge, the song Amazing Grace is the only one that appears in the hymnals of both the Southern Baptists and the Unitarian Universalists. That says something right there about its universality. Amazing Grace can be sung as appealing to a particular set of religious beliefs, or as a more humanistic song about human experience. While considered a Christian hymn it contains no mentions of, or allusions to, Jesus or Christ—and has only one passing reference to God. I’ll share some of my attraction to this song, as well as the story of its origin, when we worship together this Sunday. – Rev. Steve Edington
