The Fleeting Nature of Things

This sermon takes its title from a quote from the writer and physicist, Alan Lightman: “I don’t know why we long so for permanence, why the fleeting nature of things so disturbs.”  Mid-winter seems an appropriate time to pause and consider the dualities of love and loss – of happiness and sorrow – and to seek a path out of the tumult of our often frenetic lives, opening ourselves to a quieter, larger, and mysterious dimension of daily living.
